Like all people in Saskatchewan, all of us at Saskatchewan Health Authority have been devastated by the tragic accident involving the Humboldt Broncos Junior ‘A’ hockey team. Health care providers and support personnel have been working tirelessly to care for patients and families and ensure they have what they need physically and emotionally.
Our hearts are with the patients and families and with those enduring injury and loss.
A tragedy like this requires not only healing of the body, but healing of the mind and our mental health professionals have been working with those affected.
I want to thank the Saskatchewan people for the outpouring of support you have shown for patients and families, but also for health care providers and support personnel. There are not enough words to say thank you.
We have truly responded as a provincial health care system – from first responders to staff and physicians throughout our communities and in our health care facilities. Health care teams in Tisdale, Nipawin and Melfort were among the first to receive those involved in the accident, and I am proud of the compassionate care they provided under the most difficult of circumstances. I want to acknowledge all Saskatchewan Health Authority employees and physicians, who have put the needs of the many ahead of their own and rallied together to do everything humanly possible for the Humboldt Broncos Junior ‘A’ hockey team and their families.
