An outbreak of syphilis is being reported in Prince Albert, Shellbrook, Big River and other areas of the former health region. In the former Prince Albert Parkland Health Region, fewer than seven syphilis cases were reported annually. From August to November 2019, 21 cases have been confirmed. This number may increase as more testing is completed.

People who have syphilis or other sexually transmitted infections may not have symptoms. The best way to know is to get tested. If you are sexually active, get tested for sexually transmitted infections.
Tests are free and confidential. If your result is positive, you will be offered treatment immediately.
Syphilis is a preventable and treatable disease. Use condoms and practice safe sex.
