This important public service announcement is for residents of the area serviced by the Broadview Union Hospital.
The Broadview Union Hospital emergency department and acute care services remain closed at this time. Consistent lab/diagnostic and physician services continues to be a challenge to providing emergency services at the Broadview Union Hospital. The Saskatchewan Health Authority (SHA) remains committed to restoring local access to all existing health care services offered in Broadview as soon as we are able.
Two physicians in Broadview recently announced that they will be leaving their practices in the Broadview Medical Clinic. Dr. Kingsley Ibediro will be closing his practice in Broadview at the end of November. His last day in the Broadview Medical Clinic will be November 22, 2019. Dr. Stanley Ojiako will be moving his practice to Alberta. His last day in the Broadview Medical Clinic will be December 31, 2019. We are looking into locum coverage for the interim period once the physicians do leave the community.
Physician recruitment is anticipated to take time. The Saskatchewan Health Authority, saskdocs and Health Careers in Sask are committed to health care recruitment in the community of Broadview as well as other areas of the province that are also experiencing shortages of health professionals. We continue to focus our recruitment efforts to reach physicians and health clinicians across the country and around the world. Overall physician supply has continued to increase in Saskatchewan and throughout Canada.
On a related matter, recruitment continues for Combined Lab and X-Ray Technologists (CLXTs) in Broadview. The Saskatchewan Health Authority continues to experience challenges when it comes to the recruitment of CLXTs across the province.
Updates will continue to be provided to the community on the status of recruitment and the time frame for returning acute care and emergency department services to normal hours of operation in Broadview.
