The Saskatchewan Health Authority (SHA) health-care teams are scheduled to begin moving patients into Jim Pattison Children’s Hospital (JPCH) in Saskatoon, beginning at 7 a.m. on Sunday, September 29.
Visiting will be restricted during the move in order to efficiently and safely transfer patients, and protect their privacy.
The public should be aware that emergency services for children and adults will open on the ground floor of the new hospital as of 6 a.m. on September 29. Please be aware that adult emergency care is also available at St. Paul’s Hospital 24 hours per day and Saskatoon City Hospital from 9 a.m. to 8:30 p.m.
Before 6 a.m. on September 29, pregnant women in labour or requiring urgent care should access Maternal Services in Royal University Hospital (RUH) by going to the Old Main Entrance of the 1955 Building and reporting to the 4th floor, as is the current process. As of 6 a.m. on September 29, pregnant women who go into labour or require urgent pregnancy-related care should come to the main entrance of the Jim Pattison Children’s Hospital and go to the Maternal Care Centre on the third floor. There is a drop-off zone in front of the main doors of the new hospital on the top deck of the parkade. Follow the signs.
The move of current patients receiving pediatric and maternal care within Royal University Hospital to the new hospital will begin at 7 a.m. and will continue throughout the day. Patients and their family/support person will be supported by clinicians and staff throughout the process.
Volunteers and SHA leaders will be on-site throughout the move to assist families and patients who might have questions during the process. We are reminding the public that our teams need space and privacy to make this transition safe and smooth.
Updates on the move and additional information can be found on the Saskatchewan Health Authority website at
saskhealthauthority.ca. Additional information about services, parking and wayfinding in the JPCH can be found on the
Moms and Kids Health Saskatchewan website. Families wanting information about the location of their loved one on September 29 can call RUH Switchboard at 306-655-1000.
Media Note: There will be no media update, including access to visuals of the move or interviews, on Saturday, September 28 or Sunday, September 29. However, the SHA anticipates issuing a media update by Monday morning, with a media availability by early afternoon. Thank-you in advance for your support and co-operation.
