What are we doing?
The Saskatchewan Health Authority is developing a community health centre in Saskatoon’s Market Mall which will serve the Nutana Suburban Centre neighbourhood and beyond.
The centre will be located in Saskatoon’s Market Mall, an area with a high concentration of older adults.
What is a community health centre?
This community health centre will focus on providing intermediate care for complex older adults (50+ years of age), including those who are frail, with the aim to keep residents well and independent, so that they don’t need to access care in hospital unless needed. Some examples of the health providers that will work at this site are:
- Physicians
- Specialists
- Licensed practical nurses
- Registered nurses
- Nurse practitioners
- Continuing care aides
- Physiotherapists
- Paramedics
- Occupational therapists
- Recreational therapists
- Social workers
- Pharmacists
What services will the community health centre provide?
The centre’s services will be a mix of planned appointments, community outreach (such as home care services) and urgent chronic care for frail older adults. The centre will be open seven days a week with extended hours (but not 24 hours a day), year round.
Where will the community health centre be?
The community health centre will be located in Market Mall, on Preston Avenue in southcentral Saskatoon. The centre is scheduled to open in fall 2018.
