The 2019 Research Showcase, hosted by the Saskatchewan Health Authority (SHA), Saskatchewan Centre for Patient-Oriented Research (SCPOR) and Saskatchewan Health Research Foundation (SHRF), was held in Regina on November 21. This annual event is designed to celebrate high-quality research from across the province, and to recognize its role in improving patient care and the health of our communities.
Dr. Syed Naqvi accepts Patient Impact Award from Felecia Watson, Executive Director of Patient and Client Experience, for his research titled, The Effect of Coordinated Investigations for Rural Lung Cancer Patients on Traveling and Time to Staging Completion.
"Each year there are hundreds of studies underway in the health system that create new knowledge and lead to improved care,” explained Dr. Brandy Winquist, Executive Director of Academics and Learning for the SHA. “Many are supported by teams of people, including clinicians and patients. It's important that we take time to recognize their contributions."
Close to 300 people joined the provincial event, including clinical and academic researchers, students, patients, physicians and leaders. Speakers presented on the topics of MS research, artificial intelligence in care, Indigenous health, and predicting health needs into the future. The day ended with the SHRF's Santé Awards Gala. Next year’s event is in Saskatoon.
