A team of Saskatchewan Health Authority nurses boogied their way into the top spot at a local dance contest, all while fundraising for health services in the community.

The Eatonia Ballroom Blitz took place in November as part of the town’s centennial celebrations. Thirty-five individuals and seven groups from Leader, Eston, Eatonia and Kindersley competed while raising money for charities of their choosing.
The event was deemed a success, having raised $65,000. However, a quintet of nurses from Kindersley stole the show—their jazz routine won not just the judge’s choice award, but also garnered the most votes, earning them the prestigious title of Ballroom Blitz champions and a $10,000 grand prize. Their winnings will be put towards the chemotherapy room at the Kindersley Hospital, which provides cancer patients with care, treatment and support in or near their home communities.
“With the generosity of our community and those surrounding communities we have been given a total of $19,000 towards our charity thus far,” said Anika Becker, a Registered Nurse at the Kindersley Hospital and member of the dance troupe. “We are so grateful for everyone’s support and have hopes to continue to raise money for our chemo room.”
