On November 22, 2018 residents and staff of Tatagwa View Long Term Care Facility in Weyburn were treated to a delightful performance by a local community choir called Variations.
Following the Variations concert, Gail Murray, Stan Runne, Cheryl Zankl, Ron Jeffery, Cleone Jeffery, and June Barber (seated) celebrate the donation of the piano by the Bill and Helen Davidson Foundation.
The concert came about, in part, to recognize the donation of a new piano to Tatagwa View by the Bill and Helen Davidson Foundation (BHDF) fund through the South Saskatchewan Community Foundation (SSCF). The SSCF serves as a bridge between donors and charities in Regina and Southern Saskatchewan.
Cheryl Zankl, interim executive director of the SSCF stated she was “happy to be in Weyburn today to celebrate the installation of this beautiful piano. We are proud to help continue the legacy of the Bill and Helen Davidson Foundation and to support this important charitable initiative.”

Natasha Shyiak, facilities manager for Tatagwa View stated, “It’s a tremendous honour to be here today to accept this wonderful gift of a new piano for our chapel from the Bill and Helen Davidson Foundation Fund (BHDF). On behalf of residents and staff, we thank you.”
The BHDF was established in 2009. Based on Helen’s stipulations regarding the type and location of organizations to be considered for donations, each year the committee reviews various requests for funding. Helen was well known among multiple generations of Weyburn music students due to 70 years of teaching piano lessons. Although Bill and Helen Davidson have both passed away, Helen most recently in 2011 at the age of 103, their dedication and legacy of compassion live on in their foundation’s donations to enrich the lives of many.
“It’s not often you have total satisfaction in a project. It’s amazing how it will contribute to the residents’ enjoyment. It’s really nice when a plan comes together,” stated Ron Jeffery, a member of the BHDF.
The Variations choir have performed for the residents of Tatagwa View on many occasions.
Director Colleen Weimer and the Variations Choir celebrate the donation of the piano by the Bill and Helen Davidson Foundation
by singing a variety of popular songs.
Choir director Colleen Weimer stated, “It was a pleasure for the choir to perform for the dedication of the piano at Tatagwa View. Helen Davidson was a musical pillar in our community and she would be so thrilled to know that music is alive and well in Weyburn. This new piano is a perfect gift from her to all who will enjoy the music.”
The coming together of the BHDF, the SSCF and the Variations choir is testament to how much joy can be generated through a collaborative effort and a spirit of kindness.
