Age Friendly is an international initiative that strives to create safe, supportive and inclusive environments in which seniors can thrive.
The Town of Rosetown took up the challenge of becoming age-friendly with the support of the municipal government, seniors, business community, community advocates and local health professionals within the Saskatchewan Health Authority, who do this as a combination of their work and volunteer activities to greater benefit Rosetown's residents.
Rosetown's Age Friendly Committee Member Hugh Lees sits on one of the benches located throughout town to help seniors have a resting spot so they can be more active.
Rosetown met the criteria for Age Friendly status by passing a town council resolution in support of age-friendly principles, forming a dedicated committee, conducting a community survey and consulting with groups/individuals, and undertaking a number of community initiatives, including:
