The Saskatchewan Health Authority is offering a new program in a number of communities across Saskatchewan called Living Your Best Weight. Living Your Best Weight is a program intended for adults interested in managing their weight and improving their overall health and well-being.
Topics covered include factors that affect weight, mindful eating, goal setting, nutrients for health, label reading, meal planning, and more. Traditional approaches to weight management have focused on weight loss by recommending that clients eat less and move more. This is a simplistic approach that is not effective in the long term.

This program is based on a newer approach, often referred to as “Health At Every Size,” and is showing positive results in a number of areas including self-esteem and body image.
“Two facts that really helped me were set point (your body will determine what weight you should be – not the scales) and I never again have to go on a diet,” says program participant Joyce Polowski, a program participant in Prince Albert. “I believe that this program is imperative to the health of Canadians. Instead of focusing on shaming, the focus is positive. We need to fight the damage media has caused. We need to educate our children our peers and society that there is a better way. ”
