Even in the darkest days, if there is hope, there can be laughter.
The Unity and District Health Centre recently decided to exercise their creative muscle to put on a themed celebration for their day of COVID-19 immunizations.
“We thought we’d have some fun, so our activities department brainstormed ideas,” said Janet Bloder, Registered Nurse/Assistant Head Nurse, Unity and District Health Centre, Saskatchewan Health Authority. “The residents were excited about receiving the COVID-19 vaccine, so the extra effort to mark the occasion was well-received.”
It put a sweet spin on the occasion when residents were treated to “Orange Crush COVID” floats, and had the opportunity to have their photo taken after receiving the vaccine within a special Shot of Hope photo frame, creating a keepsake to mark the moment.
From the hand-off of the vaccine from Public Health Nurse Keri Stabbler to Janet Bloder and LeeAnn Davidson, both Registered Nurses who were delivering the immunizations, the team moved quickly to provide the vaccine to grateful residents.
“It was a day to remember,” said Davidson. “There were smiles on many faces.”

Jim Cooper was the first resident to receive his vaccine. “I was pleased to see this day come, and proud that I was first up,” said Cooper. “The staff did a great job of making everyone feel at ease.”
A photo taken under the Unity and District Health Centre’s rainbow banner says it all: Brighter days are ahead.
