Getting Started
The SHA Research Department provides a continuum of services to SHA team members including:
- research approvals (Research Ethics Board and Operational Approval),
- research contract and grant administration, and
- research support services.
Important notice as of January 14, 2022: The SHA Research Ethics Board continues to review new applications (including amendments and renewals for open studies). Due to the increased number of submissions, there will be a delay in review times. Review of studies deemed essential and/or related to COVID-19 response will be prioritized. Clinician researchers are asked to exercise their clinical judgement to determine if a study is essential. Please see document below for more information.

The SHA Research Department's Research Procedure Handbook applies to all SHA staff, clinicians and team members who are involved with research being conducted within the SHA, as well as any researchers from outside the SHA who will conduct research within it. The Research Handbook contains SHA’s most up-to-date procedures for conducting research including but not limited to obtaining funding, applying for REB approval, Operational Approval, managing funds, research contracts, and more. SHA staff, clinicians and their affiliated research team members must have a thorough understanding of all sections before conducting research within the SHA.
