Philosophy of Care
The Eden Alternative® is a philosophy which seeks to alleviate the three plagues of long-term care – loneliness, helplessness and boredom through the creation of a healthy community, a human habitat, where relationships grow, where there are opportunities to give and receive care and where variety and spontaneity flourish. The ultimate outcome of the Eden Alternative® Philosophy is that all members of the community have opportunity to experience well-being.
Central Haven Special Care Home creates a community that supports each person to live a full and abundant life.
Central Haven will be a rich and diverse habitat where children, plants and animals are a natural part of everyday life.
Central Haven will support quality of life and growth of each individual and the Central Haven community as a whole. We will strive to provide each resident with companionship, opportunities to give and receive care and a diverse environment rich with spontaneity and variety.
The environment will support the health and well- being of employees. Central Haven will be an organization where staff can make a difference. We will support our staff as individual community members and encourage them to develop their strengths and passions in meeting our mission. Their work will be meaningful and rewarding.
Central Haven fulfills its mission within an external environment that is shaped by changing expectations of the public, available resources, and a focus on primary prevention where residents become partners in their own health care planning.
