Effects of a Single-Session Online Therapy Program for Family and Friends of Long-Term Care Residents

Role overview
If you choose to take part, you will first complete a short eligibility screening and a brief enrolment meeting with the study lead over Zoom (about 10 minutes). This meeting is used to confirm that you meet the study criteria and live in Canada. During this meeting, you will be asked to turn on your camera and show ID to verify your identity. If you are eligible, you will be asked to complete online questionnaires about your experiences as a family member or friend to someone residing in long-term care. These questionnaires take about 15–30 minutes. After completing the questionnaires, you will be randomly assigned to one of two options: 1. A single, self-guided online Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) session, or 2. Online educational materials about managing caregiver stress and burden The session or materials take about 45 minutes and are best completed in one sitting. You will be asked to complete follow-up questionnaires 2 weeks and 3 months later, which will be sent to you by email.

No special knowledge, experience, or skills are required. You only need access to a computer, phone, or tablet and reliable internet connection.Time commitment
Your total time commitment is about 1.5 hours, which includes the enrolment meeting, questionnaires, and the online session or materials, and follow-up questionnaires 2-weeks and 3-months later. What can you expect from the research team?
Upon completing the eligibility survey, the research team will contact you if you are eligible. You will do an enrolment session over Zoom with the Principal Investigator (Kelsey Haczkewicz). We then send you links with the surveys and condition you have been assigned (ACT Guide Lite or psychoeducation). If you have any questions, you can contact the researchers at any time .
