About Us Summary
Our Purpose
Through collaboration and evidence-informed practices, our purpose is to lead a coordinated, province-wide effort to promote:
- appropriate use of opioids
- improve patient outcomes
- reduce opioid-related harms such as overdose and opioid use disorder
- Institute for Safe Medication Practices (ISMP)
Our services
Our interdisciplinary team is made up of clinicians whose role is to promote the appropriate use of opioids. We do this through education, research, quality improvement projects, and direct interactions with patients and other healthcare providers.
Examples of services include:
- Perform patient opioid related risk assessments (MORE Tool)
- Provide assessments and recommendations for pain management and opioid optimization in person & by phone
- Provide formal and informal education sessions to all healthcare providers and public upon request
- Order-set review and optimization
- Inform policy and procedures
- Collection and analysis of opioid utilization data in Saskatchewan hospitals
- Engage in quality improvement and research projects
