Our services
Our interdisciplinary team is made up of clinicians (pharmacists, nurse practitioners), researchers, data analysts, and administrators whose role is to promote the appropriate use of opioids. We do this through education, research, quality improvement projects, and direct interactions with patients and other health-care workers in both acute (Regina General Hospital and Pasqua Hospital) and primary care settings (Regina Chronic Pain Clinic).
Our services include:
- Opioid Audits in Acute Care: Audits are led by pharmacy students with guidance by our pharmacists at emergency department and selected medical wards in acute care.
- Opioid and Pain Consultation for Acute Care: Our nurse practitioners triage the consultation request from clinicians at emergency departments and inpatient units and determine which team members (pharmacist, nurse practitioner, anesthesia) are required and arrange consultation appropriately.
- Opioid and Pain Consultation for Primary Care: Our clinicians collaborate with primary care providers for continuity of care and support with evidence-based prescribing practices.
- Peer Mentor Support (through collaboration with the Wellness Wheel Clinic): Our clinicians connect hospitalized patients with a peer mentor to help support them during their hospital stay and across transitions of care into the community.
- Education: Our clinicians provide education rounds and Academic Detailing sessions to other clinicians on pain/opioids.
