Role overview
About the study: This research aims to better understand how changes in income and access to health care influence emergency department visits, hospitalizations, and other health outcomes among people living with mental disorders and/or substance use disorders. The findings will help inform policies and programs to improve health equity and access to care.
Role overview: As a patient partner, you will work with the research team throughout the project. Your lived experience and perspectives will help ensure the research addresses questions that matter to patients and communities. You will provide input on the study design, interpretation of findings, and knowledge translation activities to help make the results meaningful and accessible.

Required knowledge, experience, skills
We welcome individuals who have:
- Lived and/or living experience with a mental disorder, substance use disorder, or related experiences as a family member or caregiver.
- Experience navigating health care services, particularly mental health, substance use, emergency, or hospital care, would be valuable.
- An interest in improving health care and health outcomes through research.
- Willingness to share perspectives and work with researchers.
- No previous research experience is required.

Time commitment
The anticipated commitment is approximately 8-10 hours over the course of the project. Participation will primarily involve virtual meetings and reviewing documents. Meeting frequency may vary depending on the stage of the project.

What can you expect from the research team?
Interested individuals will be invited to a short conversation to learn more about the project, the patient partner role, and ask any questions. Patient partners will receive clear information about what to expect and support throughout their involvement. The research team will provide ongoing support, communicate regularly, facilitate opportunities for input, and ensure patient partner perspectives are incorporated throughout the project.
