Advancing Respectful Indigenous Data Governance and Measurement
Reliable and respectful data practices are fundamental to improving health outcomes and fostering trust.
- working in partnership with Indigenous leaders and communities to develop data governance processes that reflect Indigenous priorities, respect Indigenous data sovereignty, and support shared decision-making.
Why Indigenous Data Governance Matters
Respecting Indigenous data governance principles is essential to delivering safe, equitable, and high-quality care. When data practices align with Indigenous rights and perspectives, they strengthen relationships, support trust, and enable more accurate and meaningful understanding of health needs and outcomes.
By working in partnership and working alongside Indigenous leaders in data governance, SHA can better identify gaps, improve services, and ensure that decisions are informed by those who own the data, Indigenous communities themselves. This approach contributes to reconciliation and supports more responsive and effective health system planning and delivery.
