Academic Health Sciences

The mission of the Saskatchewan Health Authority (SHA) Academic Health Sciences (AHS) portfolio is to support and foster learning through educational best practices resulting in safe and sustainable healthcare.  

With the creation of the SHA, the AHS portfolio has responsibility for:

1. Simulation-based education in the SHA including operations of the existing Dilawri Simulation Centre (Regina General Hospital) and the Lee Irwin Simulation Center (Cypress Regional Hospital). Plans for a provincial service are contingent on identifying operational funding.
2. Learner Placement Unit – a new unit formed with SHA Amalgamation to facilitate the coordination of placement supports for all clinical disciplines and to serve as a central point of contact for our post-secondary education partners. Our team is also in regular contact with most of the health science training programs around the province. Hosting learners during their placements is an excellent recruitment strategy. We are building our team, but have many experiences to share and are keen to create space for clinical teams to focus on teaching!
3. Host and partner of the College of Medicine - Regina Campus programs. In 2011, the Regina General Hospital became the official home to the pre-clerkship component of the College of Medicine’s undergraduate programs. Since then we continue to see growth in the undergraduate and postgraduate medical learner presence in Regina with recruitment of many learners to join our faculty upon completion of training.
