Least Restraint – Clinical Resources
Least Restraint - Pilot - October 1, 2026
A pilot of the Least Restraint clinical standard and procedure will begin on October 1, 2026, within selected Saskatchewan Health Authority (SHA) teams and care settings. The pilot will evaluate a standardized provincial approach to restraint use before broader implementation across SHA.
The clinical standard and procedure support Accreditation Canada standards and Ministry of Health requirements for special care homes while promoting a restraint-free environment. Restraints are intended to be an unusual and temporary measure, used only as a last resort to maintain the safety of patients, visitors, and staff.
