Visualizing Flow: Value Stream Mapping (VSM) / Process Mapping
Value Stream Mapping and Process Mapping are visual tools that help teams understand and identify where improvements are needed. Process Mapping focuses on the detailed steps, decisions, and handoffs within a specific process, while Value Stream Mapping looks at the bigger picture by showing how patients, clients, residents, information, and work move through an entire system. Together, these tools help teams identify delays, barriers, waste, and opportunities for improvement so they can provide safer, more effective care and services and make informed decisions about where to focus improvement efforts.
