High Acuity Care – Clinical Resources
High Acuity beds are intended for adult patients who require enhanced monitoring, more frequent interventions, or a greater complexity of care than can be provided in a regular inpatient bed, but who do not require the resource intensity of a critical care setting. These beds support enhanced nursing care and monitoring for patients who are at risk of clinical deterioration.
The Guidance Document (CS-G-0549) identifies the Acute Care sites to which the Clinical Standard (CS-CS-0030) currently applies. Additional sites with designated High Acuity beds and the necessary allocated resources will be added to the Guidance Document once they are operationally ready.
Acute Care leaders whose sites are operationally prepared to implement and align with the Standard should notify Clinical Standards of their planned go-live date. Upon confirmation, the site will be added to the Guidance Document.
The Clinical Standard outlines the minimum care requirements for patients receiving care in High Acuity settings and is intended to complement, not replace, clinical judgment. The Standard may also serve as a resource for Acute Car e leaders when planning, implementing, and operationalizing High Acuity beds.
