It Starts with Me
This campaign was inspired by First Nation Health Authority of British Columbia #ItStartsWithMe and provides the opportunity for Saskatchewan Health Authority employees and practitioners to take the first step in advancing their commitment to Truth and Reconciliation.
What it means to take the pledge
Taking the pledge either online or by signing the poster below, is a commitment to actioning reconciliation in both your personal and professional life.
- Continue learning about Indigenous histories and perspectives
- Reflect on my assumptions and behaviours
- Act with respect, humility, and openness
How to turn your personal commitments into action
- Prioritize attending local Indigenous cultural events and presentations in your community
- Read and listen to material created by Indigenous authors and Knowledge Keepers
- Contribute to culturally safe and respectful care
- Listen to and value Indigenous voices
- Take action in my daily work
How to turn your professional commitments into action:
- Review policies related to Indigenous patients and culture such as the Indigenous Hair Cutting policy
- Participate in training opportunities offered to employees and practitioners such as Anti-Racism training
- Wear orange on the last Friday of every month including National Day for Truth and Reconciliation (September 30) and Indigenous Peoples’ Day (June 21)
- Take time to review the Reconciliation Knowledge to Practice guide and find information and resources to advance your learning and action
