Picture-Based Communication Tool
SHA’s Picture-Based Communication tool is an important initiative to better support non-verbal patients, residents, clients, and families across Saskatchewan. This tool uses simple and relatable images to help individuals with limited or no verbal communication express their needs, preferences, feelings, and concerns. It also serves as a bridge between care providers and those who may otherwise struggle to communicate verbally.
The Picture-Based Communication tool has been translated into 16 different languages, including Cree, Dene, and Michif. This ensures that Indigenous and newcomer populations can have a voice in their care in a way that respects their language and identity.
As part of Our Commitment to Each Other, this tool will help reduce communication barriers, ensure patient-centred care, and empower clients and their families to actively participate in their health-care experiences.
