Specimen collection container
- Preferred Collection Container: Lavender (EDTA) 4.0 mL
Collection procedure
- Specimen for this test must be centrifuged, aliquoted and frozen within 30 min of collection; preferably immediately after venipuncture. If unable to meet these requirements, patients for this test must be referred to RUH or SPH Test Centre for collection.
Required volume
- Optimal Volume: 4.0 mL Full Collection Tube
- Minimum Volume: 1.0 mL plasma
- Pediatric Volume: 0.25 mL plasma
(Submitting the minimum volume makes it impossible to repeat the test or perform confirmatory/reflex testing. In some situations, a minimum volume may require a second collection. Chemistry may be able to do up to 10 tests with 0.75 mL blood.)
