Overview
Description
Measles is a viral, highly contagious, airborne disease characterized by cough, coryza, conjunctivitis, fever, Koplik's spots and a characteristic erythematous rash.
- The presence of measles-specific IgG indicates prior exposure to measles virus or measles vaccine.
Ordering recommendations
Measles IgG may be ordered to determine immune status of patients to the measles virus.
- NOTE: Include patient's symptoms, date of onset of symptoms and recent vaccination history on the requisition.

Collection procedure
- Serum (SST): Collect blood in serum separator vacutainer (SST). Centrifuge. Aliquot.

- 1mL (minimum)

- Serum may be shipped at ambient temperature.
Performance
Methodology
- Semi-quantitative chemiluminescence immunoassay from DiaSorin (Present/Indeterminate/Absent)
- All serological results should be interpreted in conjunction with clinical symptoms and, where applicable, vaccination history
Days/times performed
- All specimens will be tested at RRPL.
Maximum laboratory time
- Turn-around-time of 3 days from receipt in lab.
Specimen retention time
- Specimens retained for 10 days after testing.
