Description
Ordering recommendations
- Laboratory will only process Streptozyme Screen requests from Infectious Diseases, Otorhinolaryngology, Rheumatology, Neurology, Ophthalmology and Pediatric specialists on patients under 12 years of age
- Laboratory will automatically report a Streptozyme Titre on all positive Streptozyme Screens
- Streptozyme Titres are NOT routinely performed
- Refer to Provincial and Clinical Service Laboratory Medicine webpage to ensure specimen and requisition requirements are met prior to collection

Serum:
Minimum: 1 mL
Whole Blood
Optimal: 8mL
Minimum: 3 mL
Transport and stability
- Stable on cells at room temperature for 24 hours
- >24 hours, refrigerate at 2-8°C
- >72 hours, remove serum from clot and freeze serum (-10°C or colder)
Rejection criteria
- Duplicate specimens collected on same day
- Routine requests for Streptozyme Screens on patient >12 years old
- Routine requests on patients <12 years old UNLESS requested by a specialists listed above in Ordering Recommendations

Testing Information
Clinical interpretation
- This test determines the presence of Anti-streptolysin O antibodies
- Anti-streptolysin O antibodies may develop in streptococcal pharyngitis, rheumatic fever, pyoderma, glomerulonephritis, and other related conditions
- This test is not appropriate for the diagnosis of acute streptococcal pharyngitis
