Care teams work together to support stroke recovery
Every stroke journey is unique, and recovery often depends on the coordinated efforts of a dedicated health-care team.
"A stroke happens when there is an interruption of blood flow to part of the brain,” Ruth Whelan, a stroke services clinical nurse specialist at Royal University Hospital, explained. "Either way, it causes permanent damage to brain tissue."
A stroke can happen in an instant, changing the course of a person's life.
Patients John Bliss and Garnet Peiffer shared their experiences after having a stroke and reflected on the teams that guided them through treatment, rehabilitation and recovery.
Their stories highlight the importance of timely stroke care and the collaborative efforts of physicians, nurses, therapists and other health-care professionals working together to help patients achieve the best possible outcomes.
Through expert care and ongoing support, patients can make meaningful progress on their recovery journey.
