New Weyburn General Hospital to open November 1
Emergency Room opens at 6:00 a.m.; Coordinated patient move starts at 7:00 a.m.
The Saskatchewan Health Authority (SHA) is preparing to welcome patients, families and staff to the new Weyburn General Hospital, with patient admissions, transfers and service transitions scheduled for Sunday, November 1, 2026.
The new hospital's Emergency Department will open at 6:00 a.m. on Nov. 1, 2026. Community members requiring emergency care should proceed directly to the new facility beginning at that time.
Starting at 7:00 a.m., teams will begin transferring inpatients from the existing hospital to the new one. Staff plan to transfer one patient approximately every three minutes, with each move expected to take up to 20 minutes.
To support a smooth transition, visitor access will be limited while patient transfers are underway. Visiting hours at the new hospital on move day will be 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., with a limit of two visitors per patient. We ask media to respect the privacy of patients and care teams during the move, allowing everyone to focus on a safe, seamless transition.
Patients will be transported by stretcher, wheelchair-accessible van or ambulance, depending on their care needs. A registered nurse will accompany each patient throughout their move to ensure continuity of care.
Current patients and their families have been provided with additional specifics regarding move day. The SHA thanks patients, families, staff, physicians and the community for their patience and cooperation during this historic transition.
