Volunteers bring comfort and connection across SHA
A meal delivered, a friendly conversation or a visit from a dog can brighten someone’s day. Across the Saskatchewan Health Authority, volunteers bring comfort and connection to patients, residents, families and staff—and often find those benefits extend to themselves.
One Southeast Meals on Wheels volunteer remembers delivering meals with her father as a child and the pride of bringing a little kindness and connection to people who might otherwise feel isolated.
At Dr. F.H. Wigmore Regional Hospital, pet visits also lift staff spirits.
“It always brightens the day whenever we get to see the dogs,” says staff member Shaleen Rigden. “Total mood boost that makes the whole day lighter.”
Volunteering creates meaningful connections for those giving their time, too. As Jim Pattison Children’s Hospital volunteers Lauren and Sienna put it: “The joy we receive in return fills our own cups too.”
Through these everyday moments, volunteers help make care more personal and welcoming
