Why Engage?
People-centred care places equal value on health care expertise and lived-experience, creating a balanced partnership between people seeking care and people providing care. It operates with trust and respect, is culturally responsive, and trauma-informed.
Engagement allows the health system to understand and respond to the unique needs, assets and perspectives of the people it serves. Engagement also provides the opportunity to address health inequities by seeking out and supporting the voice of those underserved and inappropriately treated by our health system. Engagement is our obligation under the Truth and Reconciliation (TRC) Statement of Commitment signed by the Saskatchewan Health Authority on March 04, 2019. The more successful the health system is at increasing engagement, the greater the impact we will have on service and ultimately health outcomes.
Lack of clarity and poor communication is one of the biggest issues in health care.
