Return of Evacuated Parkland Integrated Health Centre Patients and Residents to Shellbrook
As the evacuation order for the RM of Shellbrook has now been lifted, the Saskatchewan Health Authority (SHA) has commenced the process of returning patients and long-term care residents to the Parkland Integrated Health Centre in Shellbrook.
On Friday May 29, 2026, 53 patients and residents were pre-emptively evacuated due to wildfire risk in the area, and were transferred to facilities in Prince Albert, Melfort, Tisdale, Unity and Porcupine Plain. Patients, residents and families will be informed about their specific plans for repatriation to the Parkland Integrated Health Centre, with transfers occurring throughout the day today, and will be completed by Wednesday, June 3, 2026.
The Parkland Integrated Health Centre remained open for emergency and primary health services during the evacuation and is now reopened for acute inpatient care and long-term care.
“Patient safety will always be our top priority, and we would like to thank our patients, residents and their families for their understanding and patience during the evacuation,” said Derek Miller, Chief Operating Officer of the SHA. “We are grateful to our staff and physicians for their collaboration and care throughout the evacuation process. Thankfully, the immediate risk presented to the community was avoided, and we are grateful for the efforts of our partners, including the Saskatchewan Public Safety Agency in coordinating a robust response to wildfire risk in the area.”
As normal service delivery returns, the SHA would like to thank all the fire fighters for their hard work as well as the community and other partners for their ongoing support, including the Saskatchewan Public Safety Agency, the Town and RM of Shellbrook, local SHA teams, Emergency Medical Services, and many others who were instrumental in supporting the safe and coordinated transfer of patients and residents.
