UPDATE: Île-à-la-Crosse Hospital Access Restored

As of 3:00 p.m. on May 9, 2026, Ministry of Highways have completed repairs to the Highway 908 section that had been previously closed due to flooding. Road access to Île-à-la-Crosse has been restored. Out of village residents may now safely access care at Île-à-la-Crosse Hospital, as needed.
The Saskatchewan Health Authorities (SHA) thanks all staff who have supported diverting patients and directing people to the next nearest facility to access care.
The SHA encourages all residents to monitor the Government of Saskatchewan’s Highway Hotline for the most up-to-date road conditions.

The Saskatchewan Health Authority (SHA) is alerting residents in northern Saskatchewan about impacted routes to access care. The Ministry of Highways reported on May 8, 2026, that a major section of Highway 908, the primary access in and out of Île-à-la-Crosse, is closed due to flooding. There is currently no road access to Île-à-la-Crosse, including the hospital, for residents outside the community.
The Île-à-la-Crosse Hospital remains open and accessible to local residents.
Hospitals in La Loche and Meadow Lake remain accessible. Patients requiring care will be directed to these communities as needed.
Emergency Medical Services (EMS) remain available within Île-à-la-Crosse, and the airstrip remains operational to support emergency evacuations if required.
