Role overview
Patient and Family Partners will contribute their lived experience of cardiac arrest (as survivors or as family members/caregivers of survivors) to help guide the development and implementation of a research project focused on improving recovery support pathways within the Saskatchewan Health Authority. Working alongside an interdisciplinary team of psychologists, cardiologists, intensivists, and First Nations and Métis Health Services, Patient and Family Partners will help ensure the project reflects the real-world needs, priorities, and experiences of patients and families across Saskatchewan. Their input will support all stages of the research process, including study design, implementation, results analysis, knowledge translation and dissemination, and the future integration of evidence-based psychological supports into cardiac arrest recovery care, with the goal of strengthening patient- and family-centered outcomes.
Required knowledge, experience, skills
- Lived experience of cardiac arrest, either as a survivor or as a family member/caregiver of someone who has survived cardiac arrest (gives an understanding of the recovery journey following cardiac arrest, including the emotional, psychological, and practical challenges faced by patients and families, is essential) - Comfortable sharing their perspectives and working collaboratively with a multidisciplinary research team, including psychologists, cardiologists, intensivists, and health system partners. - An openness to contribute to multiple stages of the project, including design, implementation, analysis, and knowledge translationTime commitment
Patient and Family Partners will typically participate in quarterly meetings, with additional involvement on an as-needed basis throughout the project. The frequency of engagement may increase during key phases of the research, including study design, implementation, analysis, and knowledge translation activities. Meetings will be scheduled in advance, and additional input may be requested through email as required. The overall time commitment is intended to be flexible and manageable while still supporting meaningful participation across the project lifecycle.

The research team will ensure that Partners are meaningfully included in discussions and decision-making activities relevant to the project. The team will provide clear communication and all necessary background information to support informed participation. Efforts will be made to use accessible, plain-language materials and to accommodate different needs and availability wherever possible. Patient and Family Partners can also expect opportunities to share their perspectives throughout all stages of the project, with their input actively considered in study design, implementation, analysis, and knowledge translation activities. The team is committed to fostering an inclusive partnership that supports meaningful engagement and recognizes the value of lived experience in improving cardiac arrest recovery care.
