Robotic surgery transforms epilepsy care in Saskatchewan
The future of epilepsy care is here in Saskatchewan.
On March 23, 2026, this skilled and talented team performed Saskatchewan’s first robotic epilepsy surgery using the newly installed ROSA system at Royal University Hospital in Saskatoon.
This technology enables surgeons to precisely place depth electrodes within a patient’s brain to map seizure activity. This information will help care teams guide treatment decisions and improve patient outcomes, including the potential to stop seizures altogether.
Epilepsy affects approximately 12,000 people in Saskatchewan.
This technology was made possible by a fundraising campaign led by the RUH Foundation, including a gift of $700,000 from Merlis Belsher and Family.
