Ubique: Two decades of honour, duty, and heart
The Saskatchewan Health Authority EMS Honour Guard is celebrating its 20th anniversary in 2026, recognizing two decades of dedication to honouring paramedics, supporting families, and preserving the traditions of emergency medical services in Saskatchewan.
Founded in 2006 following a line-of-duty tragedy, the Honour Guard was created by a group of committed paramedics who saw the need to honour their fallen colleagues with the dignity they deserved. Through countless volunteer hours, members developed traditions, protocols, and symbols that continue to strengthen pride and professionalism across the province's paramedic community.
Among the Honour Guard's lasting contributions are the SHA EMS Cap Badge, the Official EMS Flag, and the SHA Paramedic Uniform Patch. These symbols have become more than uniform accessories. They represent belonging, professionalism, and a connection to a larger EMS family united by service. The organization is guided by the motto Ubique, meaning "Everywhere," which reflects the role paramedics play in serving people wherever help is needed.
The Honour Guard's most important responsibility is providing the "Final Salute" for members of the emergency services community who have passed away. Members assist with ceremonial funeral arrangements, support grieving families, and ensure fallen colleagues are honoured with dignity and respect.
Today, the organization continues to welcome new paramedics into the profession, participate in memorial and commemorative events, and strengthen connections across Saskatchewan's first responder community. As it marks its 20th anniversary, the SHA EMS Honour Guard remains a symbol of service, tradition, and remembrance, ensuring that the contributions and sacrifices of first responders are never forgotten.
