- Whole blood
Collection procedure
- Fill 3 circles on the newborn screening blood spot specimen collection card. Fill in the information on the newborn screening sample collection card before applying the blood. Apply whole blood directly to the collection card. Allow to dry at room temperature away from direct heat or sunlight for at least 3 hours before inserting the card into the plastic envelope.
Transport and stability
- Ship to referral laboratory at ambient temperature.

- Specimens received where the proper collection protocols were not followed
