- Refer patient to a Laboratory Health Services Centre or a Hospital Test Centre able to process specimens within required time frame.

- Preferred collection container: Gold (gel)
- Alternative collection container: Red (non-gel)
Collection procedure
- Specimen for this test must be collected, processed, aliquoted and frozen within 45 -60 minutes of collection; Aliquot serum into 2 transport tubes.
Required volume
- Optimal volume: Two 4.5 mL full collection tubes
- Minimum volume: 1 mL serum
(Submitting the minimum volume makes it impossible to repeat the test or perform confirmatory/reflex testing. In some situations, a minimum volume may require a second collection.)

- Specimens received where the collection protocols were not followed

Testing Information
Clinical interpretation
- Decreased concentrations of Complement C2 may be caused by genetic deficiencies, increased in vivo consumption through complement activation or improper specimen procurement, transport or storage. A definitive clinical diagnosis should not be based on a single result or method but should only be made by the physician after all clinical and laboratory findings have been evaluated.
