• Chromium ordered via the SCM ordering system (RUH) require the Acute Care Phlebotomy Requisition Form #101062 

Test Ordering Requirements

• Acute Care Phlebotomy Requisition Form #101062 (RUH only)

Preferred Specimen Collection:

• Refer patient to a Laboratory Health Services Centre or a Hospital Test Centre able to process specimens within required time frame

 

Specimen Information

Specimen types accepted

• Plasma

Specimen collection container

• Preferred Collection Container: Royal Blue (K2EDTA)

Collection procedure

• Centrifuge and separate within 24 hours of collection

Required volume

• Optimal Volume: 6 mL
• Minimum volume: 2 ml

Rejection criteria

• Specimens received where the proper collection protocols were not followed
• Pathology and Laboratory Medicine Acceptance and Rejection Criteria

Testing Information

Relevant clinical history

• Relevant Recent Medication History - Patients should discontinue nutritional supplements, vitamins, minerals for 5 days prior to collection

Clinical interpretation

• Used to monitor exposure to chromium
