Description

Test ordering requirements
Preferred specimen collection
- Collect peak level 2-3 hours post dose
Forms required
- Completed National Jewish Health pharmacokinetics requisition, including drug dose amount, frequency, method, and date and time of last dose prior to draw.
Additional comments
- A bacteriostatic agent used against tubercle bacilli

- Serum
Specimen collection container
- Preferred collection container: Red (no additive) 6.0 mL
Collection procedure
- Centrifuge and remove serum from cells immediately
- Freeze within 24 hours of collection at -70°C if possible, otherwise freeze at -20°C
Required volume
- Optimal volume: 4.0 mL full collection tube
- Minimum volume: 2 mL serum
(Submitting the minimum volume makes it impossible to repeat the test or perform confirmatory/reflex testing. In some situations, a minimum volume may require a second collection)
- Pediatric volume: 0.5 mL serum
Rejection criteria
- Severe hemolysis
- Specimens received where the collection protocols were not followed
