Ordering recommendation
- Draw blood immediately before next scheduled dose (trough specimen).

Specimen types accepted
- Serum
Specimen collection container
- Preferred collection container: Red (No Additive) 6.0 mL
Collection procedure
- Centrifuge and aliquot serum as soon as possible or within 2 hours of collection.
Required volume
- Optimal volume: 2 mL serum
- Minimum volume: 1 mL serum
- (Submitting the minimum volume makes it impossible to repeat the test or perform confirmatory/reflex testing. In some situations, a minimum volume may require a second collection. Chemistry may be able to do up to 10 tests with 0.75 mL blood.)
Transport and stability
- Freeze upon receipt in the lab
- Send frozen to the referral laboratory
- Repeated freezing and thawing should be avoided
