• For determining CHRONIC exposure to organophosphate insecticides, Cholinesterase RBC is preferred.
• If patient has had recent surgery wait 24 hours post-surgery before blood collection

Collection procedure

• Allow specimen to clot completely at room temperature
• Centrifuge within 2 hour of collection or ASAP

• Optimal volume: 5.0 mL full collection tube

• Frozen: Over 2 months
• Refrigerated: 2 months
• Ambient: 24 hours

• Specimens received where the collection protocols were not followed
